This is Nature Boy! ~ Cover Your Children's Eyes!

[This is a poem inspired by a Jason Quiggle poem from The Ice Age. It is based on an incident from 1995, which he mentioned in the poem I Thought I Lost You There For A Minute.]

This is Nature Boy
cover your children's eyes

we were just kids gone to dangle off the edges of the world
whirled up into the vortex of various vices, devices and entities
swirled and blurred beyond recognition, fuzzy and buzzing
all a haze walking out of it into the rising sun
brian (third day smells like pussy)
still baring it proudly walks with us in boots and backpack
the rest of us dressed but less ready
rambling, rumbling, stumbling and cursing
tumbling out of the canyon
like boulders loosed from the mountain
ready to crush the sensitive sensibilities
of those supposedly more sensible
approaching families fear our awesome sight
in the early morning sun
emerging from the canyon
and a night of naked, drunken, doped-out debauchery
in the not so distant hot springs of Arizona
but on that morning
the day after the night in question
we were certain we were in danger of death
we were delerious and dangerous
a danger to ourselves and others
we could not stop ourselves
we had to keep moving to survive
if we should stop and be still
we would be there still
become one with the stone
sedimentary and sandblown
somewhat lost in that desert of desperation
we desired nothing more than water
all our lives now a quest for fluids
the vehicle achieved and operated
opened up roaring in quest of convenience
parched and panting
we gulped and chugged
attempting to drown our thirst
only to regurgitate in collective compulsive bulemia
the elements and our impatience got the best of us
brought out the worst in us
we argued and brooded all the way home
back to the blue city
a city in the sun
so dark it needs neon and halogen supplements
so dark for those of us who can see it
we can feel it growing in us
it's been building for longer than any of us dare acknowledge
but we will survive this too
just take a short look back
and see how we pulled through
we made it back from last night
that should be enough
