THANK GOD FOR ABORTION

At the time I didn't think it was such a good idea either way
but I thought that we could rise to the challenge
that one healthy, intelligent, well-adjusted child
raised and nurtured in an environment of acceptance and love
could somehow offset the millions of others
experiencing the more common environment of ignorance and violence
I thought perhaps we could break the cycle with us
but thank God for abortion
because she had her career to think about
and after all, weren't we just a little too young?
ourselves just two kids playing house
and I had to admit I wasn't in a hurry
all of this later turned and thrown in my face
made to be my fault
as if I should not have allowed her a choice
but I say "thank God for abortion"
for my own admittedly selfish reasons
for although some have suggested that a child might have saved the marriage
I say "thank God for abortion"
because I would hate to see what this divorce process might have done
to a child caught in the middle and torn between us
as well as providing reason for further contact and animosity
so I say, "thank God for abortion"
because it's better this way
it's easier this way
and comfort is the goal of American life
and she is so American now
I am sure she would agree with this last statement
thank God for abortion
