I began my interest in photography as a child. I don't remember when I first began to take photographs with my father's camera. But I remember my brother was also very interested in photography and was given a nice 35mm camera for Christmas one year - probably 1982. I suppose my parents thought that the expensive gift would give him something else to focus on other than abusing drugs. Nice try folks.

Well, I was always jealous of him for having received that camera, and I asked for one every year. But my parents knew it would do nothing to curb my appetite for drugs. Still, like my brother, I took a photography class in high school, and did fairly well at it. Actually my brother took 3 years and received straight A's, whereas I took only one year and got a B+. My younger sister also took one year of the class with the same instructor- also getting a better grade than I did. But she told me that he had told her, that of the three of us, I had the best eye for composition. I actually very rarely cropped my photos in that class and always got high marks for composition and subject matter, but my darkroom work was sloppy. I always had problems in developing my film. So, thank Great Spirit for digital photography.

I continued to enjoy the art of photography for many years. I was once almost arrested for taking photographs of shopping carts at night. (The police just did not get the concept of art.) I always enjoyed finding something to frame in a photograph. But I was poor white trash, which means that I couldnt afford to develop every roll I shot and feed my drug habit at the same time. So, photography was neglected for a while - except on rare special occasions, such as live performances with the band, the wedding, and trips to Zion.

Then my wife did something really cool. She bought me a small digital camera for Christmas in 2001. And with that I began to take photographs a lot more often. It was really difficult to get a decent shot with the camera, but it worked and I worked it. Again I was fell ill - came down with the shutter bug. (Ill in the head... I see it.... I gotta shoot it!) I took photo after photo of mostly worthless garbage, but I knew it was working and I was developing my talents once more.

I started this photo gallery in 2002 with just a Kodak EZ200 digital camera and some scans of photos taken with my old 35mm. A little while later I bought an Argus 100, it was only 1.3 Megapixels but it was all I could afford. And Frankly I think the Kodak produced much better color and contrast, though at a lower resolution.

Then I finally splurged and bought a Fujifilm S5000. The wife was pissed! "What the fuck do you need another camera for?" For taking better photos, of course.

Anyway, she is gone now and those better photos are coming soon. Some have already arrived, just check the links below. Most of these photos featured here are old. I will be changing this around soon, with a whole lot more galleries. So, watch out!

Please have patience, some of these files are quite large and take time to load. Just click on a link to find more photos.

Mt. Rushmore

This for example is an old photo taken in 1986. I was sixteen and on my way to a family reunion in Rolla, North Dakota. The Native American cliff dwellings listed above may have been photographed in the same year, or somewhere between 1984 and 1988.
