Are we truly a free country? Are you truly free if you cannot choose for yourself what goes into your body? If you don't own your body who does, the government? Do we really need a nanny-state to look after us?
Whatever happened to the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?"
The evidence will show that the "War on Drugs" is a scam, just like the Cold War. The same government which tells us to "just say no" and arrests us and seizes our property if we do say "yes," is complicit in, if not responsible for, the illicit drug trade. Anyone in the know will tell you that the Drug Enforcement Agency is really the enforcement arm of the illegal drug trade itself. The DEA only shuts down the competition, while looking the other way as covert operatives bring in more product for the ever growing drug market.
And how is it that the government can expect program such as DARE to be successful in telling kids to say no to drugs, when pharmacuetical drugs are not only approved but even mandated. If its OK to take Ritalin, or even required in some cases, then why is it bad to smoke marijuana?
These are the questions we face. Do you have any answers?

New Drug Promises Shift in Treatment for Heroin Addicts For many addicts, though not all, buprenorphine does what methadone does, blocking an addict's craving for a high, but experts and addicts asy it has several advantages over the older drug, and the most important may be that a patient can get a supply, not merely a dose, with a visit to a doctor and pharmacy. Like methadone, buprenorphine (pronounced byoo-pre-NOR-feen) is addictive, but the risk of overdose is much lower. Unlike methadone, buprenorphine will not give an addict more than a mild high no matter how large the dose, and it cannot be combined with opiates or other narcotics to get higher still. Users suffer fewer unpleasant side effects, and milder withdrawl symptoms when they stop taking it.
Study Finds 2.6% Increase in U.S. Prison Population The nation's prison population grew 2.6 percent last year, the largest increase since 1999, according to a study by the Justice Department. The jump came despite a small decline in serious crime in 2002. It also came when a growing number of states facing large budget deficits have begun trying to reduce prison costs by easing tough sentencing laws passed in the 1990's, thereby decreasing the number of inmates. At the end of 2002, there were 2,166,260 Americans in local jails, state and federal prisons and juvenile detention facilities, the report found.

Report by Police Outlines Mistakes in Ill-Fated Harlem Drug Raid A tangle of mistakes, including lapses in communication, poor supervision, and failure to follow proper procedures, led to the death of a 57-year-old woman in a botched raid. In an unusually candid report on the May 16 raid and the events that led up to it, the department said that officers did not monitor the woman's apartment or take any other actions to verify an informer's tip that drugs were stored there, information that turned out to be false. Officers also did not question the convicted drug dealer who supposedly used the apartment, even though he had been arrested days before the raid. They also failed to tell the officers who broke down the apartment door and threw a concussion grenade inside that the drug dealer was in custody and thus could not have been there. The report also found that some senior officials, front-line supervisors and rank-and-file officers in the elite tactical unit that breaks down doors in such raids wer ignorant of the department's written policies on the use of the grenades. The city's chief medical examiner ruled that the woman, Alberta Spruill, a 29-year city worker, died as a result of fear and stress caused by the 6:15 a.m. raid, after the grenade was detonated and she was handcuffed. Ms. Spruill, who was getting ready for work, went into cardiac arrest a short while later. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
Federal Persecution Ed Rosenthal, a medical marijuana advocate, is to be sentenced on marijuana cultivation charges. His conviction, by a California jury that was made to believe he was a common drug trafficker, was a miscarriage of justice. A federal judge may now be on the verge of compounding the wrong by sentencing Mr. Rosenthal to prison. Growing marijuana for medical use is legal under the California Compassionate Use Act, passed by voters in 1996, and Mr. Rosenthal was authorized by the city of Oakland to grow medical marijuana. But federal law does not distinguish between growing medical marijuana and run-of-the-mill drug cultivation. At Mr. Rosenthal's trial, Judge Charles Breyer prohibited the jury from hearing a medical-marijuana defense. When jurors learned of the facts after the trial, they were dismayed. Nine of the 12 wrote to the judge, saying they had convicted Mr. Rosenthal "without having all the evidence."
